 Re: cox gtm rally car
That looks lovely, I especially like the second pic - very atmospheric! Do you know when and where they were taken? Look mid '70's to me?

 Re: cox gtm rally car
Hi Dion , after posting these i did find where they were posted before ... typical , as far as im aware it was rallied from the early 70's by a guy in scotland , the car had the blue line down the side (pic 1), during the next owners ownership the blue line was removed (not straight away ) but the car was then rallied more locally to me like cricket st thomas etc If you look close you can see the clothes give away the period (had a red rally jacket myself back in the day lol), and a few old cars . Next time i chat to the chap that used to rally it i will be sure to ask about dates, looks like they were having alot of fun , cheers simon

 Re: cox gtm rally car
A friend of mine (Martin Bragg) who's just bought a GTM spotted this. The driver is me (Tim Porter) with my late brother, Nick and we were running with Minibits of Weston-super-Mare, a company who sold mini spares.
Simon is right, the first picture is Cricket St. Thomas in 1977 and the second is the Somerset Stages (5th Overall) in the same year. The car had the ultimate 1293cc inclined valve, inclined port head, all steel bottom end and straight cut box and drop gears. (approx 130bhp.) Rather sadly, I still have the results in a file somewhere!
We bought the car in Edinburgh where it had previously been rallycrossed!

 Re: cox gtm rally car
Hi , yes i bought it, originally the idea was to use it to rebuild my old heerey but after buying it and the previous owner (David,on here, many thanks ) passing on details after i bought it from people that had missed the auction and had wanted it and from Tim (timporter below). Tim was kind enough to fill me in on the cars past and send me some photo's of himself driving the cox , which made my mind up that it will be returned to as near as possible the spec you see in the pictures. Luckily the arches and suspension (reverse a arm/rose jointed) the bespoke details remain. The back end was extended and the flip rear end was glassed back on after Tim sold the car, this will be put back to standard length and the original mini back lights refitted. Originally it was fitted with the engine that Tim stated , if anyone has one and i dont need a mortgage to buy it , let me know..... cheers simon

 Re: cox gtm rally car
I thought the rear end had been lengthened a little

 Re: cox gtm rally car
Hi Neil , yes its about 3 1/2 inches longer , flat on the back instead of the 'soap dish ' luckily the original (by original i mean rally spec) arches etc were not affected and it looks like it can be returned to how it should look. cheers simon
