I have a mk 11 rossa built in 1989. What were the engine option sizes in 1989. My understanding is from 850 to 1380 normally aspirated and 1275 turbo. Is that correct. derek

1380cc is not a production capacity,it requires a longer stroke to achieve that, usually by offset grinding a 1275 non s type crank, a plus infact if I remember correctly !
1380 doesn't require anything fancy with the stroke - just boring the cylinders to 73.5mm. Usually the bores will be offset slightly when doing this but it's not enough to require changes to the big ends or journals. You can then go to 74mm on most A+ blocks giving a capacity of 1399cc on a standard crank. Beyond that I think you need to start messing with the stroke - David Vizard's book has a recipe to get the A-Series up to just shy of 1600cc.
But no 1380cc is not a standard Morris/Austin/Rover capacity for the A-series engine.
The A-Series came in all sorts of sizes over the years in Minis which are the usual donors for the GTM but the engine could have come from a number of other cars that got variations on capacity. There are also about a thousand and one different capacities that can be arrived at with modifocations that may or may not have been done.

The magic number on A-Series naturally aspirated engines is usually 100hp per litre. That's going to depend on cams and whatnot though.
At 1600cc though an A-Series is not going to be a nice engine. It's not designed to have that sort of reciprocating mass or stroke. The walls of the cylinders are thin so they flex and you'll get a lot of blow-by. From memory you also need to use Triumph 2.5 cylinders which have a much lower compression height than the normal A-Series pistons so you need to carve a lot of metal off the top of the block and run serious risk of breaking into the top of the water jacket. Unless you absolutely need the maximum power out of an A-Series then it's not a capacity to go to.
Certainly not worth the cost of building one. I believe there were examples of the ford twincam engine mated to the mini box? Again, probably not cost effective.
