Paint Removal? Silicone Removal? Any thoughts?
Any suggestions for removing paint on the GTM Coupe that has been put over top the gel-coat. I looked into strippers, but I am worried then may get into the glass and cause issues later with the new paint. So given that, is sanding the best way to go? The paint is quite bad as it was put on with a brush and a roller, and is quite thick in many areas. I have done metal bodied cars before, but never a fiberglass body, so don't want to screw it up..
Also there is silicone sealant all over the car, so I have been removing it and sealing with seam sealer on the metal areas. I also have a lot on all the window openings, as it looks like it was used between the rubber window seals and the body and between the sunroof and the body.. It's a bugger to get off! I have been scraping with a razor blade..but any other ideas? Is there some chemical that will take it off to ensure the paint sticks?

POR15 paint stripper is claimed not to affect 'factory fibreglass' whatever that means.
Screwfix have tubes of 'silicone eater'. I've never used it so I don't know what it does.

You can get fibre glass safe paint strippers, I was advised about them for another project but have yet to need to buy some

Go to a boat yard or chandlers and get stripper for fibreglass boats. I have used it on a brush painted boat but it will still attack the gelcoat if left on too long. Peter.

Re: Paint Removal? Silicone Removal? Any thoughts?
I've had a similar problem with sillycone (think a previous owner had shares in a supplier). Best thing I've found for removing it was a silicone remover from Bettaware (smells quite citrus-ey). Does the trick and washes off with water and paint has gone back on over the top with no probs so far.
I've removed paint from fibreglass and various other possibly delicate surfaces with a product called Dilunet. Originally found at a chandlers and used when we had a fibreglass cabin cruiser but I've used it in a few places since. Again washes off with plenty of water afterwards.
