Post Cable gear change on rover metro R 65 gearbox?
Hi,
Hope you can help, just looking for an alternitive to the strange rod change that is on my K3.

I was looking at putting the mgf cable change on it.
Looked at the cables and the end brackets(gearbox) and the bell bracket

Has amyone done it on this metro type box, or is the cable only for the pg1 box??

or is it just easier to change to a pg1 box??

hi I don't think you can just put the mgf cables on the metro r65 type box
and you can not just put the pg1 box in
there are some members on here that have put a 1.8vvc engine in with a pg1 box
im going to put a 1.8vvc in my k3 some day i have the engine and box but work on it is slow going

have you seen this post this might help
1-8-mgf-conversion-t2123.html

regards paul

Thanks for the tips.
The cables are for the pg 1 gearbox, just wondered if anyone had put them on a r65 insted of the pudding sturer.

and as far as I know the r65 box was only fitted to front engine front drive cars, not on the mgfs.

The rossa gearchange for the mini is quite neat, gearstick, rod then gearbox.
k3 is gearstick, rod,u shaped thing, bell crank, rods, bell crank then gearbox.

the mgf cables fit a PG1 gearbox and couple up very neatly as you would expect. The R65 gearbox linkages are in an altogether different place which is why the rattle rods were fitted. The R65 box was used in the metro and so 13 inch wheels can be fitted without problems, the PG1 box runs 14 inch and above wheels and is standard on most K series engines of 1800cc although there are some Libra's fitted with 1800cc and R65 boxes. It would be quite a challenge to fit mgf cables to an R65 box but not impossible.
Peter.
