Post Re: Libra V6 in Black - Thinking about it!
Hi all, apols for the lack of response on this. Have been busy doing other things & not logged into the site for a looooong time....

Car is still here - I've been using it a fair bit as the weather has been unseasonably mild.

I'll look to get in touch with people over the break when I get a bit of time spare.

Thanks for your interest.

Cheers,

Stew.

Right - not my usual style but here goes...

Sold the car to a guy who said that he was buying it as a car for his own private use.

He contacted me through a private email account & it wasn't until he filled the logbook in that it turned out he was buying it as a trader but I gave him the benefit of the doubt as he could have been buying it through his business.

It clearly turns out that he actually wanted to turn himself somewhere between a quick 2.5 - 3k profit for minimal work.....

That is the prerogative of the individual concerned - I know that I would struggle to make peace with such behaviour.

My lesson is learned, shouldn't have sold the car & never trust people however genuine they may appear - unless I've made a terrible mistake & the plans changed.....

If anybody called Gary Bradbury (hobbits2001@yahoo.co.uk) or somebody calling themselves Box Fresh Classics wants to buy a car from you then I'd think twice.

It's a great car & will make a new owner very happy I am sure.

Stew

I've noticed this sort of thing happening a lot at the moment especially with classic and niche performance cars. I tend to look at lots on ebay, pistonheads, car and classic Tec as I am always on the lookout for something nice.

The best case recently was a one owner from new (an old boy was finally selling through a local dealer/garage) lotus europa which popped up for sale in Plymouth or maybe Portsmouth on ebay at £8500 it sold quickly as you'd expect and was back on ebay within days nothing done to the vehicle at £13995 where it is still for sale.

Horrible example of greed in my opinion and I know it's a business thing but the amount people want to make on top is crazy.

I guess there are a few ways to look at this. One point of view is that its quite hard to value specialist cars. They are only worth what someone is willing to pay. If you had been flooded with offers of 9k then 9K would be within the market's expectations. If you are asking 7k and there is only limited interest and eventually someone pays it then 7K is the right price. If your buyer thinks he's going to get 9k he might be in for a surprise when it sits there for ages. If he does sell it for 9 it kind of resets the bar for anyone else selling one of these which would be good news for us who own them. I suppose buying from a dealer/business does give some added value as there is a degree of comeback and you'd usually get a warranty of some kind.
I expect most people looking to buy a GTM would do a bit of research first and would find there way here and read this and maybe then ask a few questions!
The Lotus Europa example is clearer as most people would agree the guy was asking too little but maybe he was happy with what he got.
The other thing to consider here is insurance values - unless you have an agreed value policy then your insurance will be based on "market value" so if your pride and joy gets nicked or written off how much do you get back? For specialist cars the insurer will look at recent adds to try to ascertain what the market value is - difficult if only 1 or 2 change hands each year but if they were looking now they'd find this ad, so now is a good time to write off your Libra!!

That's a real shame, I'd have paid the 7 grand or whatever it was. Wouldn't pay what the a**hole has it up for now though
