a brief outline of what ive experianced
Single circuit [when a series]ferodo road 8.4 solid disc, std mini drums. Locked fronts very easy,
ferodo road 8.4 solid disc, std mini drums with MGBGT V8 slaves. Alot better balance, but now experianceing bad fade on track day.
Green stuffs 8.4 solid disc, std mini drums with MGBGT V8 slaves. Same balance more initial bite from the green stuffs and improved fade resistance.
Dual cicuit with Balance bar. [and now Honda power] Green stuffs 8.4 solid disc, std mini drums with MGBGT V8 slaves. now able to fine tune the brakes to preferance, fading now a problem again and rear brakes needing adjusting very frequently, i.e twice on a track day/ every few hundred miles.
Black stuffs 8.4 solid disc, std mini drums with MGBGT V8 slaves, Black stuffs tested at one track day due to lack of pad availability and destroyied in that one track day, And after being faded a couple of times where scary, i.e no brake retardation.
Green stuffs 8.4 solid disc, My Large rear Brake kit 9 inch disc [ferodo road pads]. A lot of front bias needed on balance bar to compensate for the imbalance due to disc sizes etc, No more rear brake adjusting and more consistant pedal due to self adjusting. Brakes are more consistant upto fade point pos due to rear drums fading before front discs before.
Full Big Brake kit, Wilwood 4pots 10 inch discs. added to above, Wilwood smart pad, took a long time to bed in and felt very good, lacking in cold initial bite that i like, but was improving with more miles. Pos revisit/test, Brake balance wound closer to 50/50 on balance bar, is possible to lock all wheels, alot more control over the locking point due to increased disc size.
As above but with Green stuff pads, Initial cold bite better, and more preffered characteristics for myself.
A brief note, Brake pad bedding/disc bedding does have a huge effect and should be given a few miles to fully bed in, as much as the pads have to bed in to teh disc the disc will have to bed to the pad, i.e some brake pad material is needed to be depostited upon the brake disc, From my experiance Green stuffs when first fitted are a liitle inconsistant and you can fade them quite easy. After this first initial fade the pad appears to become more stable in its characteristics and improved fade resistance also there after.
When i do make it to the next track day i will be testing these Smart pads that i have again for the wilwoods, but at the minute my prefered pad is green stuffs. heard good things about yellow stuffs but generally from heavier cars.
looking back wasnt quite that brief
