Harold you are spoiled for choice, when I come to buy tyres, they will most probably be Chinese Chinglon or Fungdo which I have never heard of, at least we don't have to worry about wet road grip 9 months of the year!!

The Kumho KH17 and Toyo CF2 have both been on my sons Golf. They were mainly bought on price but both are reasonable brands. They wore evenly, if a bit quickly (only about 12,000 miles on the front). He said grip was fine with both but he preferred the Toyos as they give a smoother ride and are a bit quieter.

The Yokohama's have the best looks but are a bit more expensive, don't know if they are worth the extra money.
Kumho's I don't have experience with, but reviews seem to be okay, hence my question.
Somewhere in the past I drove Toyo's, don't know which type anymore, but I believe they were allright, wore a bit quickly but as the GTM is not a daily driver that is not very important.
Quietness is not really important too as the rest of the car isn't quiet

@John: It probably isn't as dry here as it is in Nigeria, but my coupe stays inside when it's raining mostly anyway
Is importing good tyres not an option?

The last tyres I imported were for a bike and I carried them into the airport over my shoulder to the check in counter I really don't want to do that with 4 tyres

Send them over maybe? Or convert to 10" and wear them around your legs

Just ordered 4 tyres, the Kumho KH17's 175/60-13
In a Dutch test by ANWB (Dutch AA) they did well, for a good price.
The only shortcomings are that they are not very quiet and wear pretty fast.
Because the car is not used daily and the rest of the car is noisy too these points are not important to me.

Harold a friend of mine races an Elise and he swears by the khumo tyres great grip and reasonable price he imports them from Holland as it is cheaper

I'm curious how they drive and if the shaking will be gone.
Hopefully the tyres will be delivered tomorrow. Maybe I'll have them changed this weekend.

Just two short questions:

- Is the wheel-brakecylinder at the right rear normally on a mini's rear too?
- How much play should there be in the outer homokinetic joint? Should I be able to turn the wheel a bit without the driveshaft moving? Or should the be no play at all?

To Answer your Questions.

Yes Mini Wheel brake cylinders can be used but others do fit I had MGBGTV8 ones fitted when I had drums to get more rear brake as it suited my style better and helped front locking.

I take it you mean the Outer CV joint yes a very tiny amount of play is normal if you take the boot off, messy you can check the play is in the joint itself and not the splines of the driveshaft.

I was a little confused about the rear brakecylinders, if they are the standard classic mini front or rear cylinders, because the engine and driveshafts are normally in the mini's front.
But I think they must be the rear ones.
I saw the one on the right rear is leaking when I was replacing the wheel bearings.
I also felt that the outer (indeed) CV-joint has some play, and because the hub is off, now it is a good time to replace it if it's necessary.
I will check this evening if the play is in the joint or in the splines, I think there is a bit in the joint.
How much may this be? How much is a tiny amount?
If I replace it I wil replace the entire joint including the outer shaft with splines, so any play should be gone than, or can the splines in the hub be worn aswell?
