have you driven the car enough to be able to compare before and after interested to find out steering and suspension compares as now your wheels are further out they are closer to where mine are. Hope you are finding its better after all the work you have done to make them fit I thought you do it.

Post Re: Libra + GTM wheels + 304mm Disc/AP Racing 4pot?
Had a few drives now. The brakes are far more effective(praps too much?) , it takes much less pedal effort to slow/stop the car than before - now more comparable to a modern car. I say praps too much as it's now easier to lock the front brakes, but I think it's just a case of getting used to not having to tromp the pedal to get the car to stop!

I used EBC black pads on the front (same as rear) as i'm mindful of 'the big brake mistake' and thought that using greens would be a bit much.

So far I would definitely recommend fitting the APs.

As to the effect of spacing out the front wheels(only) I haven't really noticed any driving difference, it's seems to not had a negative effect anyway. I have decided so far however not to space out the rears to match the front as I originally intended. Reasons for this are the one above, plus it might make the rears stick out too far, maybe even beyond the wheel arches' top. Also there is the issue of added wheel bearing stress plus other possible unknown handling/suspension geometry issues.
This means I currently have a spare set of spacers and wheel studs which other than the discs/calipers are all the parts you need to do this conversion.

Perhaps with more time/miles i'll have a more informed opinion on the two changes - brakes/spacing.

Total cost was less than £300.

Thankyou for reply I am now less worried I have chosen wrong wheel offset it is nice to hear from someone who has experience of both set ups same as antiroll bars most either have them from since car was built or don't have them so no one can say if they are worth having or not

I need to get longer wheel studs for mine. What size are the ones that you got?
Are they M12 x 1.5 and how long as standard.
Cheers

You need m12 x 1.5 with a 13.1mm spline dia. The ones I had were the original rover 100 studs (I think) which are 45mm long not including head. The ones I bought were for Fords and others and are 63mm long, which with my 12mm spacers gave plenty of thread for the wheel nuts.

Note the new heads are different, bigger diameter with no chamfer, also the unthreaded section is fatter and the splines are coarser.

The difference in splines was not a problem I found, the studs pulled in fine and were plenty tight. The fatter unthreaded section meant putting the 304mm disc on was a tighter fit but the 240mm discs with their bigger centre hole size was easy so that is also no problem.

Getting the longer studs on was a problem as I found they wouldn't get past the hub. I choose to grind a channel in the hub to allow me to locate them in the holes, I also lathed the new stud heads to be the same size as the originals (19mm down to 17mm). Additionally I lathed a chamfer in the new heads to match the old ones - the holes in the flange have chamfer too - not sure if this was essential but I did it anyway.
You could I suppose put a flat on one side of the stud heads to allow them to pass the hub but i didn't fancy that. You could also remove the flange altogether to fit them, but I didn't want to disturb the wheel bearings.

Here's a pic of new (unmodded) & old:

Thanks very much for the info, Sidewinder.
Thats just what i needed. :D

I don't have access to a lathe so that would be more awkward for me!
So time for a bit more 'lateral thinking'.......

Thank you, that's a very kind offer.
I've ordered some 5mm spacers so will see what they're like first. If no good then i'll get back to you.
Cheers

Can you tell me the studs you used were for a ford transit, the ones I already bought the splines are just under 1mm to small and as such don't fit.

How much longer do need more than standard length stud if you do not need more than 10mm you could use rover metro rear wheel studs that are 10mm longer because the cast rear brake drum is thicker than the front discs so the same spline stud was used but slightly longer

Found some studs 63mm extension studs in the end on ebay which was cheaper from Grayston Competition Wheel Stud with M12 x 1.5mm x 13.1 spline Ford - 63mm Long (SS37)

Will fit tomorrow night if they turn up tomorrow that is :D

Bargain Team Dynamics wheel purchase failed! Weirdly they apparently came off another Libra??... Looks like I’ll have to add the longer Ford studs as well! Will give the metro ones a go but an extra 10mm doesn’t look sufficient.
