Post Steering Column Bracket
Has anyone got any pictures of the bracketry used with the Dolomite column? Mine looks very home made and I don't think it is giving enough support. The word "droop" keeps on entering my head whenever I look at it.

If not I suppose I will have to add it to the bits of the car I am going to have to redesign.

Also, anyone got a spare door hinge?

This is the bracket I made from a blueprint kindly supplied by Peter Leslie of Primo.

Trap, who bought my car, has the blueprint now.

That's very similar to mine, though mine is entirely 1" box section - the cross piece has an appreciable angle on it compared to the line of the car.

Tim if you need to add some stiffness to your colunm, try some of the other forums I hear are on the net.

Google (drooping column) Alternatively have a quite word with your doctor, explain your drooping problem and I'm sure after a few tests he will see you "straight"

Yes. I made the GRP chassis myself. I'm not sure how much it weighs. Light weight wasn't the aim when I made it. I wanted it to be rustproof. I don't own the car anymore though. I sold it to Trap who also posts on this forum.

also my pedal box mounts off it, so its all nice and stiff, thinking of stiffening it up even more possibly in the future., the horizontal tubes run all the way under the bulkhead and bolt up to the pedal box the tubes finish about half an inch short of the front bulkhead

Neil,

Almost exactly what I was going to do. I think I prefer the idea, rather than having the frame all the way across, as I can't see where it would get the strength from.

I'll have to get my bracketry sorted out, so I can keep pushing with the car.

I can confirm no noticeable droop in the Primo designed set up that GTMDriver built into his/my Coupe.

According to th GTM build manual you are supposed to fasten the lower lip of the dash panel to the tubes that run across the car.

I'm not going to use the standard dash, as the lights from the dials shine on the screen. I'll be making a frame for my own dash to sit on, but I want to keep the column bracketry separate to that. I'll probably use aluminum for the dash frame. I think a nice dash is going to take some designing though. Luckily there was someone in my kit car mag that has been showing how to do stuff like that. 8)
