Some of you have probably seen my posts on modifying the pedal box on the Coupe to give adjustable brake balance and also twin cylinders, well here is my new setup using a pedal box from Optimium Brake Parts, wonderful piece of kit full 6:1 ratio, bias bar the works. Had to lift the bulkhead up a little get it in but in the end I think it was worth it. heres some pics of the build so far.

Looks good.

What is the clearance like for the steering column?

I'm tempted to get this set up. Might have to raid the piggy bank again! :roll:

My description of how it may work when we talked about this before looks almost spot on to how you have dont it 8) looking good fella and the 6:1 pedal ratio should be spot on did you go for 0.625 cylinders on both front/rear?

There's no problems so far with the steering colum as the pedal offset is exactly the same as a mini pedal box, if anything I think the pedal layout is better than the original.

Yeah i sort of took your idea and then played around with it on the car, I wanted to keep the pedals a good distance off the floor and also have the ability to raise/lower the box if needed when finished, so far so good, it has also strengthened up the bulkhead as well. At the moment I have left it running the 0.625 cylinders front and rear as the caliper sizes are almost identical and the balance of a Coupe is almost 50/50. It will allow a really good brake pedal feel and at the moment I didn't want to spend more money buying another size. I'm going to use a 0.7 cylinder on the clutch to make it user friendly, the 0.625 worked but was on its limit for travel so I think 0.7 will be fine. The cover will be made removable so access to the fittings ect can be made easily. I'm also going to mount the wiper motor on it as well as its basically the same position needed for install. All in all a simple job that should prove much better than the original. I also don't think it looks to out of place with the overall design of the Coupe.

You Planning on running Standard Mini/metro Calipers front and rear, if you do you will prob find you will need the balance bar set up more towards the front and not at 50/50. As i found 50/50 was too much rear that was with my 8.4 front discs and 9 inch rear and cossie calipers,which are slightly smaller bore than mini calipers., Its roughly at 50/50 now with my huge 10 inch front discs and willwood calipers.

West,

Mini calipers front, VW golf rears on the back, I have a balance bar set up on the dash so adjusting shouldn't be to difficult.

AT a best guess I reckon you will find the 0.625 front/rear fine, and will need the balance bar near a 50/50 split, as the golf calipers have a slightly smaller piston than my cossie ones so will not need as much forward bias as i needed with 8.4 fronts, just be careful when you do get it on the road and use the brakes as it will need a little fine tuning to preferance on the road.

Thanks for the advise West, it will be a while till its on the raod, but I spose it won't be any different in seting up as when I use to race, I'm just anoyed that I didn't find the pedal box earlier as it has been such a simple solution to my on going problem of some time.

For anyone else wanting to use a similar setup I'm more than welcome to sketch up mine and post.

Well, I've splashed out on a set of these pedals. Should be here this week. I've just got to get the decking in the garden done, so I've can get back to work on the car. :roll:
