I remember 78Kg's somewhere from the depths of my memory  But I haven't had one on the scales so I'd suggest 80Kg's is a fair average, It maybe the 78Kg figure is the Cox weight

From memory I weighed one roughly and 90Kg comes to mind, ill see if I have a note somewhere this was a late 80s tub and i think it had a couple of small bits of sound insulation on. So around 85-90kg seems about right.

'67 Cox GTM original frame was 72kgs (inc. moss and mushroom, but excluding missing floor, sills etc) , my tinkered frame is now 85kgs (the sweat and tears built in ads a bit...).

Perhaps they beefed up the later tubs to cope with the more 'ample' frames of the post-Cox Coupe drivers?? :D :D

Hi,

The panels range from 1mm-2mms thick. The sills, the tunnel and the "towers" and the crossmembers are stronger than the rest. And it is not stainless.

At the beginning of the work I was tempted to do the frame of aluminium a'la the Heerey Cox, but I realized I am not skilled enough to do this.

Maybe You are thinking of something like this?

Yea thats right, just planning at this stage, dreaming of a next gen coupe,a little bit bigger, much stiffer stronger, without touching the bodywork, maybe with a diesel engine, cheers.

Put a full rollcage in it, and it will add the rigidity You are looking for or even more.

Making the sill, tunel etc tougher is adding only limited amout to overal chassis strenght in my opinon.

Diesel engine??? My Dear God!... Blaspheny... errr... maybe a v6 TDI... not that bad...

Are you going to fit a tow bar too?  :) :)

Seriously though, I toyed with the idea myself (diesel engine!) as modern common-rail jobbies are quite pokey, but I couldn't find anything that weighed less than half a ton, which would no doubt give a Coupe that Porsche 911 feel...
The only manufacturer that I could find that does a relatively lightweight alloy diesel engine is Japanese (Nissan :?: ).. though it's 2.2ltrs and would undoubtedly cost a packet as it's brand new..

The other consideration is gearing, as most cars these days have rather large wheels/tyre combos compared to the coupe, I have had some thoughts on how do attack this myself

How about a Citroen AX / Saxo or Metro 1.5 Diesel. Must be dirt cheap by now.

Would give you a range of 500 + miles, just take you a few days to get there
