Post Re: r 1 coupe
Neil,

As you know I have 2 GTM coupes:

1) The red car. This has a purpose made roll cage manufactured and fitted by the firm that has just made Shane's, I gave him the address and details some time ago. There is no foward diagonal on it that would obstruct the passenger space. There is a cross diagonal in the back frame.
The front and back portions of the cage are linked by low level horizontal bars which are running forwards/backwards at low levels across the door openings. There are 2 very short back stays that land on the top of the rear bulkhead. I have owned this car for about 5 years, it came with an MSA logbook and I have competed in about 40 MSA sprints and hillclimbs and never a word has been said by anyone about the roll cage. In fact nothing on the car has ever been queried by a scrutineer, Mr Goldthorp built it well.

2) Kermit. I bought this about 2 years ago. It had no MSA logbook and had never been used in competition. I got it inspected by an MSA scrutineer and it was issued with an MSA logbook. I have competed in MSA events about 15 -20 times and nobody has ever said anything about the roll cage. It does not have a forward diagonal strut/brace - it had a passenger seat in it when I bought it. It does have rear facing back stays which are connected to the rear spaceframe. See picture:

Steve,
The first obstacle is getting and MSA logbook which Shane could do now - it is pretty unlikely (in my opinion) that a car with an MSA logbook would be denied permission to compete at an event. In the details they take for the logbbook the roll cage is noted.

Some really interesting stuff here -- maybe I should try to get my car log-booked and see how it turns out.

Making some great progress, is the roll cage in for good now or will it be coming back out again?

We cured mine with a couple of added cable ties!!! until we replaced it with a plenum for the turbocharger.
