Post Gearbox bias spring
Hi
Does anybody have any experiance of the rod change bias spring kits for the A series.
They look like a good idea but will they fit? or are they just a gimmic

If you have a look at this months Mini Mag (May) page114 Keith Carver is talking about fitting one to his racing car. They are also standard fit on Mini Spares 5 speed box's.
(Mini spares Part number MSG12)

Yes.
I have.

It worked well, helped a bit with that 3rd gear selection  ,

Verdict.... ok for a road Coupe :D

The cheaper way is to fit a soft spring between the "U bend" of the gear linkage and the subframe.

Just pulls the gear lever over in neutral towards the 3/4 gate.

Yes bias it to 3rd and 4th only, so you have to "push" slightly to get to 1st & 2nd, just think like a modern car.

Fitted to the bottom of the gear change "u bend", at the front, using a jubilee clip, then to a p clip on the subframe, drivers side.
In my case there is a clip that holds the heater pipe and I used that.

Will try to get a picture soon.

If you want to experiment try it with a thick elastic band, or in my case a slice of inner tube and a couple of cable ties.
(Did I mention, I'm Scottish and therefore mean by default)
