K3 handbrake cable, standard Metro or special?
As the ongoing rebuild of the tail end of my K3 progresses I'm left looking at a rather tatty and hacked about handbrake cable. It isn't clear if I'm looking at modifications or repairs here. Is the cable a standard Metro/100 cable or was it a special for the K3?
If it makes any difference I have the rather bizarre looking 2CV handbrake calipers fitted.
Thanks,
Rich

Re: K3 handbrake cable, standard Metro or special?
Hi Rich
I've looked thro' all the K3 info I have and can find no reference to handbrake cable. I assume therefore that it must be from the donor Metro.
The GTM K3 caliper assembly was not very good so I've been told. I think the MGF one is the recommended modification. Maybe a K3 owner will reply with advice.
Cheers

Hi Alan,
Thank you for having a look, much appreciated. The 2CV option on mine is never going to be high performance but it seems to do the trick and now I've stripped and cleaned them down they should be a little better. Would I be right in thinking that fitting the MGF option would mean using the F uprights and a new set of wheels to clear them? I'm currently using the 13" GTi wheels from the original donor.

Hi Rich
Although I now have the original GTM K3 info and some of the moulds I have no experience of working on these Rossas. Hopefully a helpful K3 owner will reply. Cheers

Hi Rich, the MGF upright is a bulky affair and is attached by a track control arm and a trailing arm with an adjustable tie rod for toe adjustment and as such will not allow a 13 inch wheel over it. I have mgf rear with 14 inch compomotives and i had to grind a little bit of relief otherwise one connection wiped off the stick on balance weights as its that close. MGF wheels are 15 inch alloys with a 14 inch steel spare. The mounting holes for the MGF rear caliper are 85mm centres so look at your existing hubs to see whether you could adapt to fit. Hope this helps, Peter.

I believe that a standard handbrake cable is used but mine was shortened using u clamps after it had been bent back on its self not idea but seemed to work. Matty

Re: K3 handbrake cable, standard Metro or special?
Thanks gents,
I've ordered a standard handbrake cable as a quick search of eBay shows they are silly cheap, I may well have to look at options for shortening it. There's no plans to convert to an MGF rear just yet, the metro brakes are more than adequate for the way I drive. If I go to a bigger engine I may have to revise that.

Ha! That's what my 'hacked about' cable looks like with the cable repair U bolts on the nearside and main pull. I might see if I can get one modified. Thank you for the scan of the manual, any idea where I could pick up a copy? It's always useful to see what the kit maker was getting at when you are trying to work out what is going on with something.
