Post Libra hazard switch
My switch seemed to have had it so I got a new one, in my haste I bloody pulled the connectors off from the back of the original switch without noting down what went where, although to be honest it'd be near impossible to make the colours out without taking it off anyway.

I've already seen the other threads for hazards switches but mine is the 8 pin peugeot type, (little black type next to the fog switch and heater control)...

Does anyone know which colours go to which pin??

Supposed to be going for MOT this week so I can finally get another Libra on the road! But knowing my luck something this simple could probably end up cocking that up!

Any help would be appreciated!

If you can open the old switch up and take a few pics, I should be able to work it out for you.

The switch doesn't open :( Absolute bummer, looks like the M.O.T will have to be put off another week but at this rate I can't seem to find anyone who knows what goes where, might not even make next week!

Thanks for the offer though :)

Do you have the wire colours that go to it?

Right, we can work it out if you have a multimeter:

You should have:

An unswitched (always on) positive
An ignition switched positive
Wire out to the indicator stalks
Wire out to left indicators (flasher)
Wire out to right indicators (flasher) Possibly these last two will be on one connector.
You might have another one for illumination switched by the light circuit

On ohm setting on yr meter, find the two terminals that pass current when the hazards are off and don't pass current when on. These connect to the ignition switched positive and the wire to your indicator stalk. Yr normal indicators will now work if the hazards are turned off.

You''ll likely have one terminal that is more heavy duty than the rest, the unswitched pos goes on there. The other two indicator wires to the other two terminals (it doesn't really matter which way round these 3 go.

The light circuit goes on the smaller side terminal if fitted.

Even if I find out what each wire does, which as you say is easily done with a multimeter.. I have no idea what each pin on the switch does, and there are 8 of them, all the same size and not numbered! All the wires have female spade connectors on of the same size too.

So I've basically just got 8 wires and 8 pins, so even if I find out what each wire does
I won't know which pin/spade on the switch to put it to! :x

Thanks for your help guys, something like a hazard switch shouldn't be this bloody hard to figure out!

Well it bloody well is, it took me 4 days straight to get mine working on a mini/triumph loom :?

To find out what each wire does, get a positive wire from the battery + terminal and shove it in each connector at a time:

2 or 3 will do nowt. These are your positives.
A couple will light up each side of the indicators
1 or 2 will power your normal stalk indicators with the ignition off
One will likely illuminate yr switch
If you get mucho sparks, that's an earth.
Tag the wires.

Set meter to volts.
Test the ones that did nowt.
One will be permanently live.
One will be live only when ign is on.
One might come live when you turn on the headlights.

Then, do a continuity test between all of the pins on the switch, with the switch turned on, and repeat for off. Write down the results.

What you are looking for is:

2 terminals that have continuity when the switch is OFF and no continuity when the switch is ON. They also have no continuity with any other pins. Onto these two pins connect the ignition switched live and the wire that feeds your normal indicator stalk. It doesn't matter which way round.

6 left.
You are now looking for pins that are opposite, (no continuity when off, continuity when on). There will be 2,3 or 4 all connecting together when switched on. Put the Permanent live, and the 2 wires that light up the indicators onto these terminals. It doesn't matter which way round.

Now your hazards should work, if they don't, try the remaining connectors on the remaining pins. If they spark a lot when connecting, it's the wrong one, but you've now only got 12ish combinations that it could be. :D

The elise s1 uses the same switch, can you make any sense out of this diagram with regards to the switch?

Has the pic uploaded properly? :?
Could I email it you if you could get a chance to look at it? I'm not too good with car wiring diagrams!

By the looks of it, the switch should have some tiny numbers on the base next to the pins.

May need a magnifying glass.

As long as wiring convention has stayed the same:

Pin 1 Purple/white wire
Pin2 Green
Pin3 Purple
Pin4 Green/white
Pin5 Light green/white
Pin6 Green/Red
Pin7 Black
Pin8 Red/Black

Otherwise you're either going to have to chisel open yr old switch and take photos, or google around a lot.

I'm sure the pins are on correctly now but still nothing, so seems the original switch was fine too... it doesn't seem to be working through the relay, theres no clicking at all yet the hazard lights on my dash come on. Don't get it!

I'd guess at the ground not being connected correctly. Check that you have continuity between the black wires and the negative side of the battery.

Failing that, it may be the relay. Would be a worthwhile getting in a spare anyway. :D

id expect to get sparks from putting a live to the black wire but instead the dash lights come on
?!

That may happen if a) the wrong wiring convention has been used or b) That's the Purple/black, not the plain black.

You NEED a multimeter for this, and we'll talk you through it. B&Q do half decent digital ones for under a tenner.
