Post Re: K3 Rebuild
Have been playing with fibreglass for the last few weeks. Have got the rear panel moddified and fitted. I didn't like the way GTM had designed it, so it now bolts flush with the lip on the rear bulkhead, and is a nice snug fit against the B pillars. Also had to re-mount the seat belts so i could use the MGF trims:

Got bored with the old metro dash, so have been replacing it with a MGF/25 dash. All wired in and working perfectly. Fiberglassing the big hole up in the dash was quite a challenge but has come out well. Just needs some final sanding but will require the screen out, and then i can flow coat it:

Next jobs:

Fibreglass the holes in the door cards were the old window motors were.

Fibreglass the radio/airvent holes up in the dash and bring them out flush with the front off the dash so i can use more modern style vents.

Make a new centre console panel to house the heater controls, 12v socket, dash dimmer and fog lamp switch.

Will be picking up the new wheels on Saturday.

Can you tell that i really wanted a libra but didn't have enough money?

On a serious note i lost the original glove box as i just couldnt get it to look right.

Door cards have received a lot of fettling to try and get them to fit nicely, drivers side is there just a bit more to do on the passenger side:

Cant wait to get it trimmed, just need to make the choice between alcantra or vinyl.

Good work, I was beginning to think it looked like a Libra dash :) .

I've got Alcantara on my dash, no reflection on to the windscreen, really good material.

Bob.

Time for an update.....

Quite alot has gone on over that last few months, firstly a shocking job was made of the interior by a trimmer that came with good reviews, i still can't beleive any body could do such a bad job:

This has now been retrimmed from scratch again by a different trimmer:

A lot better job than before

Have picked up a set of Mk1 MX-5 seats to be retrimmed in black and grey leather with the same pattern as the doors. The great thing about these seats is that they have speakers in the headrests.

Have also been busy on the rear subframe, was in a terribly rusty state before, have shot blasted, painted it and rebuilt it with new parts and nuts and bolts, now looking a lot better:

Have indiviulized the hydrolastic spheres:

Image

Now have a set of 4 matching wheels which have been blasted and powdercoated, complete with new decals for the centre caps:

Image

Image

Next on the list is to fill in all the extra holes that have been added over the years and paint the rear bulkhead:

Image

And continue cleaning the engine and gearbox and give them a lick of paint:

Hi, looking great, currently rebuilding my k3 with all mgf bits (at lot more work than it seems... :( ), will get some pictures up soon hopefully. :)
Just a couple of questions if you dont mind! Where did you get the individualising adapters, the ones i've seen seem a lot of money for what they are!
Also I am looking at getting my dash trimmed and I was wondering if you could give me an approximate figure for how much it cost? I retrimmed the whole interior on mine previously and i must say it looked very much like your first 'professional job'!
Cheers, Andy.

It is suprising how much work goes into it. Looking forward to seeing your pics.

The hydrolastic adaptors came from http://www.componentengineering.co.uk/index.php iirc they were £55 for the 4 including new schrader valves.

The retrim (dash, doors, centre console, gaitors, rear panel) came to £550 including materials.

Finaly managed to get the time to get some colour on the rear bulkhead and get the subframeback in, really pleased with the colour (Porsche Mexico Blue):

Have fitted a duct to the LHS which will be connected to the existing scoop on the side of the car, hopefully this will keep the bay a bit cooler:

Really pleased with the calipers in blue:
