 Re: GTM Coupe Teardown Starts
Some progress as starting to reassemble the car. I also received headliner material, carpeting for interior, trunk carpeting, and the materiel for redoing the seats. I have installed the rear tail lights, the carb grill, made up the engine covers grills, installed front turn signals, and headlight.. and partially put in soundproofing, painted the dash, and installed the sunroof. Got the headliner installed today.. Here are a few pics of the progress.. Next will be to get the windows installed, but need to find a longer front windscreen rubber..

 Re: GTM Coupe Teardown Starts
Been slogging away at it and it's coming together bit by bit. The headliner is in and the rear window, and that was real pain to get installed and the locking strip done! Waiting on a front seal to finish up the windscreen. In the meantime, working on getting all the electrical hooked back up and the rest of the gas lines, plumbing etc, so I can start it up again.. Also laying down the sound deadening so I can then do carpeting.. here are a few pics of the progress so far.. Front lights and grill.. still need to mount the front plate..thinking about that one.. Sorting out the bulkhead area.. and radiator and fans installed... Wiring up the front lights.. My new grille covers The rear script and light

Amazing work. I keep looking in at how you're doing, I sometimes wish the forum had a like button. I'd prefer all black window rubbers myself, but other than that stunning work. Now it just needs a nice little D-series in the back

 Re: GTM Coupe Teardown Starts
Yes, I have thought of a D series as I have one in my 89 Mini30 already.. but for now I wanted to stay with the 1275 and see how I like it..

 Re: GTM Coupe Teardown Starts
Well no pictures, but a bunch of work is done.. I have finished up all the wiring except the fans, and installed the distributor, new fuel lines, new clutch pipe front to rear, put the starter and alternator back, as well as coil and cap.lead, remounted the carb and modified the air filter to mount lower, remade the cooling popes in the engine compartment, and replaced the hoses, modified an MG overflow tanks and made a mounting for it, ran a new choke cable from the dash to the carb, and cleaned up a bunch of messy wiring. Unfortunately I now need a new windscreen as just after working the rubber onto the glass on the car there was a large 'cracking' sound and the windscreen split top to bottom on the LH side (top of the laminate only, the backside is still solid)... I am pretty choked about that as there is no easy way to get this windscreen here. It will have to come from the UK, if I can get one made...in the meanwhile, I will continue to finish everything else and the car can be driven to test everything out as the crack is not on the drivers side.... I have a few calls and emails in to see what I can do..,,arrrgh!

 Re: GTM Coupe Teardown Starts
Well good and bad news on the windscreen.. I am able to order one which will get shipped to the US as part of a regular glass order for the US distributor.. and then I only pay shipping from there to my location..bad new is that it's a 8-10 week time frame to get to the US... so back to working on everything else...although working on installing a new soft top on my son's Miata this weekend and attending a local British car show, so not much getting done this weekend.. Mike

 Re: GTM Coupe Teardown Starts
A lot of progress, the car is running again and I have taken for a quick run on the street! Ya-hooo! I have been working on finishing up the interior so here are some shots of doing the seats.. I have also completed the sound deadening installation, side windows and door panels.. The car pretty much finished except for interior The seat before I ripped it apart.. The covers off and ready to take apart to make templates.. Tracing for the paper templates Laying out the patterns on the new material.. Inside cushions made and installed on the foam.. The shell of the seat after repairing some foam..ready for a new set of clothes! The outside goes on... Then the inner cushions are fitted.. A fitting in the car to see what it looks like.. Sewing up the second seat ... And it's done now .. Next to finish up is the carpeting...

 Re: GTM Coupe Teardown Starts
A lot got done this weekend as it was a 3 day, with Monday being a provincial holiday. The finished up the sound deadening, and installed all the carpeting. I also built some covers boards for the trunk floor and carpeted the trunk. A lot of little things got cleaned up as well..door adjustment, redoing grounds, adjusting the shift linkage, putting the fresh air hoses and the defroster hoses back in.. and insuring the car.. and taking a few long drives! A little tuning is required on the engine as it bogs a bit at the higher rpms, but otherwise she runs great.. A shot of the interior completed with carpeting.. and from the front... And the trunk... under the carpet, removable boards which creates an space to store tools, or a dead air space to keep the heat away from things carried in the trunk..

 Re: GTM Coupe Teardown Starts
Well, the GTM is back from its first major trip. 600+ miles return trip to the Portland All British Field Meet. The car ran flawless all the way there and back.. the suspension settled a bit with two of us and the luggage and tools (not a lot of space in the trunk so packing light!), we were rubbing the rear wheel wells once and a while over some of the rough roads. The car runs about 3000rpm at 60mph, so good for the highway, but not a lot of punch off the line.. I suspect it's a 2.95 rear?? Handling was fabulous on the twisty route we took.. just feels under powered compared to driving my VTEC!.. and the car could handle more power and still feel well behaved. I did take first place in the show for the Mini Variants.. so pretty happy about that .. I could not get away from the car as so many people were crowded around and asking questions. I even had someone stop me on the way off the field who wanted to know if I would sell the car... It was a great weekend of car showing, prize winning, swap meet and watching the racing...and of course the drive back and forth on nice twisty roads!
