That does look to fit rather well.

Cage looks fantastic -- does it meet MSA regs? If so you may have found a solution that a lot of folks have been looking for!

If the MSA requires a back stay it is not compliant, but when looking at Westfields, Caterhams etc they are not fitted with back stays, where would you attach them  so it should be easy to show plenty of other short assed cars without back stays to strengthen your argument.

1.3.3. Backstays. These are compulsory and must be
attached near the roofline and near the top outer bends
of the main rollbar on both sides of the car. They must
make an angle of at least 30° with the vertical, must run
rearwards and be straight and as close as possible to
the interior side panels of the bodyshell

In that case all Locaterfields I have seen are not compliant, they would need a longer "boot" to have a back stay 30 degrees from the vertical, I will have to bring my big protractor to the next meeting I'm entered and make myself unpopular

Most I have seen would also fail on the single bend on the front legs.

Surely this applies to a roll bar not a roll cage. I compete in MSA events with an identical cage to this one and nobody has ever queried it.

In fact looking at my copy of the 2014 MSA regs it says:
1.6.1 Series Production, Touring and Sports Cars

Production, Touring and Sports Cars up to 2,000cc - Basic rollbar / rollcage complying with K1 or K2.

K 1 & K2 I am assuming refers to the sketches no 1 & no 2 in the Appendix which are simple cages with no backstays.

I don't know.

All the GTM's I've seen the last few years at hillclimbs and sprints have had simple roll bars, not a full cage and passed through scrutineering, "Miniman" can we have a word from you on this, any hassle with the scrutes?? I usually get to see him at Wiscombe Park in April and will ask.
I've had the back stays questioned once on my Jedi in about 17 years, the rest of the time it sails through, but the scrute was normally doing circuit racers not hillclimbers

The issue of back stays is a real pain. I discussed this with an MSA representative at the Autosport show a few years ago but couldn't get any direction. I also contacted a local scrutineer who viewed the cage in my car -- built by and ex Gordon Spooner/M-Sport rally engineer -- and still didn't get a clear answer, just the I'll get back to you and then never did.
When I bought the Primo project from Mrs Leslie a number of people contacted me regarding a roll cage but I don't feel able to progress a design or more to the point recommend a cage such as this one and then have someone spend a shed load of money and get a refusal from the MSA at their first event. Perhaps when flippspeed finishes his car he'll enter it in an MSA event and set a precedent.

flippspeed 2 further questions -- where does the forward stay mount (floor or tunnel)? and is there still room for a passenger?

Davids Cage does have some reaward stays but if memory serves correct they may only just reach the 30 degree angle or are dog legged slightly. I need to find the pictures.

The forward diganol from the hoop goes down to the passenger lower mount for a pillar. So would be in the way for a passenger.

I have yet to have a proper look at a cage into mine. Its on the job list and should be coming up soon as it is needed as my car is only developing further and further altho at a slightly slow rate currently, and will be done before I go much faster over the quater.

Tony on his coupe, moved the main hoop fowards slightly away from the bulkhead which allowed to meet the angle requirements with the rearward stays.
