Also looking at the Nissan SR20 from Primera egt and Almera GTI - but they might be huge as well.

Starlet turbo is a nice idea - but I wouldn't want to try and find a cheap one anytime soon.

Has anyone ever thought of a Rotary engine?? They are incredibly small, light, you can get all sorts of bits for them, not sure on gearboxes as they are all rear wheel driven but I would imagine a box from a GT Mazda or similar would be able to be fitted. I know and have seen masive BHP readings from them. I know they aren't the most fuel efficient but it would be a great combo.

Yep, I quickly looked at this last night. It seems the cheap early RX7's aren't woth bothering with as they only push about 120 hp - but the late 80's turbo might be worth a look?
Apart from that I think there's only Norton who are licensed to build Wankels.

The early RX7 motors are the same as the late model ones, there was only 3 different types available, 12A, 13B, 20B, the first one was in all series 1,2,3 RX7's, then they changed to 13B for series 4,5, with some very special ones having the 20B. The 13B is the one to go for, larger displacement, more tuning capibilities, turbos can be bolted to any of them. I have owned a couple of them in my days and they are great little engines if looked after.

I used to race on the same track as Mark Walklett ( I won't claim to have raced against him) in the Mazda powered factory Ginetta and it went like a rocket and sounded glorious. The engine was about the size of a small beer barrel. They are a bit unconventional to rebuild though.

Had a good look at the brother in law's turbo MR2 over the weekend. Definitely won't fit with the turbo on it, but the unit did look very central to the car and canted slightly towards the rear. I'm told the celicas had the same unit - so cheap as chips and 160bhp with a bit of twiddling.

And the 'net says that wherever these fit, the 3.0 v6 Camry engine fits too

Bear in mind the 3sge is quite a heavy cast block which will be hard over to the offside. Honda's are alloy and the opposite way round

It is a heavy block yes, but output figures will off set this in a car like a Coupe. Its  "VERY"  centrally ballanced across the car thow, and it will fit, Trust me!.  I've got one sitting a few feet from my Cox The 3.0ltr v6 also has had some nice turbo and superchargers fitted with very silly figures produced
