Re: V6 Libra for sale on eBay, non runner
It is all about supply and demand. Libra's don't come up for sale often, V6 ones almost never. When one comes available and you want it enough then it is worth paying. The cost of getting that one running may not actually be that much, maybe £50 for the window glass and similar for a fuel pump then a bit of tweaking door locks and you could be away for under £200 if you can do the work yourself. I'd say the market could support £8k for a fully functional V6 Libra so an investment of £6700 and a bit of time doesn't seem so bad. There is of course the risk that there could be other things that need doing but with the receipts shown hopefully not. Will look forward to the new owner coming on board and sharing their journey.

Yep I was hoping it might just be an immobiliser issue, not used for a while etc. if they had used MGF door locks if they are not in the right state then the immobiliser doesn't work correctly. Failing that if it's the pump then it's a drop tank & replace from what I've seen not difficult just awkward

Re: V6 Libra for sale on eBay, non runner
If it was an immobiliser problem and it was associated with the 5AS then every function other than ECU handshake can be disarmed by simply earthing the relevant wire because the 5AS just interrupts the earth on the protected circuits as far as I can tell. My doubt on the Immobiliser as a diagnosis was that the report said the fuel pump relay was getting power but the pump wasn't operating. Having said that, as it switches the earth then I suppose there could be 12v at the +ve but the coil wouldn't switch the relay if the coil earth was interrupted. Easy to check, just direct earth the earth terminal on the fuel pump relay.

Re: V6 Libra for sale on eBay, non runner
Hi all, I eventually have access so now I can introduce myself. I'm Steve and live in Cheltenham, and purchased the blue V6. Got V25GTM dropped off in Cheltenham on Monday, whcih was the first time I'd seen the car. I took a big gamble bidding on eBay without viewing the car, and let's just say that I got a bit carried away during the last 20 seconds at auction end! Not the bargain unfinished project that we all would have liked, but definitely a project that I really 'wanted' to take on as I really like the design and the fact that they're far more practical than most kit cars... and it's a V6! The sale went very well and Jill (the seller) was great to do business with. I've had a few kit cars over the years... - Westfield 1700 x/flow - Fisher Fury Spyder Le Mans which I bought part finished, got it through IVA - Sylva Stylus (not mine), part finished and helped my friend get it through IVA - I also own a Eunos Roadster (Mk1 MX5, not a kit car!) which I have turbocharged to 220 bhp... might sell it!? Back to the Libra. So far, I've been able to source and temporarily fit the passenger window (defo Fiesta Mk3) and have sorted the very tempremental doors locks. There's a long list of other things that need sorting, such as the rear clam pivot and strap is broken, surface corrosion on rear suspension components, minor wiring and cosmetics, but it all seems to be pretty intact. The next big thing to diagnose is the fuelling issue. The battery was at zero volts when I got the car, so it's been charging for a day or two, I hope the battery survives. I've not yet tried to start the engine, and plan to see if I can get the pump to run or diagnose why not. I don't seem to have an inertia cut-off switch, so I can rule that out. I assume that the fuel pump relay is in the engine bay next to the ECU. Not looking forward to having to drop the tank to get to the pump, but if I need to hey ho! I have a small key fob (says Lucas 17TN, ggogling shows it as a Rover item)) which doesn't seem to work, and assumed that was for central locking only as I cannot see an obvious alarm/immobiliser. Is this correct? Anyway, nice to meet you all (virtually) and look forward to future discussions... I'm sure I'll have a few questions to ask you knowledgable folk! Steve

Quote: I'd say the market could support £8k for a fully functional V6 Libra so an investment of £6700 and a bit of time doesn't seem so bad. You're probably right. I thought the market for a nice V6 was up to 8.5, so based my calcs on that. To be honest I'm probably a bit bitter I didn't get it . Just a safety note for the new owner - I noticed when I viewed that it has non-reinforced MK2 rear arms on it which according to the buyers guide are prone to cracking. All the best with your new purchase. Nathan

I would just put a new battery in for a fresh start rather than struggling with a poorly maintained unknown quantity (especially if you have to do electrical fault finding). Does the car have central locking? Does the fob look like this? Attachment:

On mine I have 5AS and that fob but don't use it and leave the system disarmed all the time as I have a separate alarm/immobiliser/door locking system. If you can i'd find the fuel pump feed at the relay and connect straight to 12v and see if it runs - at least you will eliminate it and save having to drop tank to find out. Or there might be a plug at the back end of the tunnel (under car in front of tank) coming off the main tunnel loom which is the fuel pump connection. Attachment:

Re: V6 Libra for sale on eBay, non runner
Hi, thanks for your advice sidewinder, I'll get underneath and trace the wires. Swapped in a good battery and the engine cranks over quickly but no fuel from the line I removed from the rail. Yes, it's the same keyfob and does seem to be operating now... but only when the key is in and ignition is on! so won't open or close the doors remotely from outside the car!

Bizarre.
You should hear the pump prime when switching ignition on, if it's working normally.
FYI The 5AS immobiliser kills the fuel pump feed if it's 'armed'.

Re: V6 Libra for sale on eBay, non runner
Hi Steve,
Will follow your progress with interest. I'm fairly local to you (Yate), used to travel to Cheltenham every day for work until a few years ago. Happy to give help/advice if required but sounds like you are on top of it and know what you are doing!
As well as this great club you might want to check out Kitnet for local meets/runs etc as GTMOC don't do much in the SW but Kitnet originated in the Bristol area and most members are SW based so activity tends to focus around here and there are a few others in the Cheltenham/Gloucester area too.
