Re: How to modify your rubber cones. Spring Rates
Yes, I joined about 5 months ago but didn't get a manual. I've never had a newsletter either because there were none left at the time - have there been any recently?

I then cut the step a little deeper on a set af cheap "hi-lo's" so that the Mini flange would fit over the "hi-lo". This gave him the adjustment whilst retaining the curved surface of the original Mini item. Iain Interesting, So was there a noticable change? I had a set of rear trumpets with a larger than usual flange a while ago (possibly off a van?) Unfortunatly I didn't do any back to back testing, but the Mini they went in certainly handles nicely. No idea - I've never driven the car in question. The trumpets looked nice and the theory seemed sound so I spent an hour or so on the lathe in return for a mint grille badge for the front of my Clubman. That's the beasty though - the general opinion at the club is that it's very.......... erm..... very........ Brent Iain

I've been in the club for ten years and there's never been any free manual's. What would a Libra/Spyder/K3 owner want with a Coupe manual When Bob took over the membership sec job , we found these manual's and decided to offer them for sale at £10, so I'll have to have a word with Bob, £5 that's a bargain Bob S.

Re: How to modify your rubber cones. Spring Rates
Hi there,
The original rubber cones which GTM had machined are rotten. Can I just fit a normal set for now or is the ride completely unbearable?
I assume the machined cones are only for the front, standard cones in the back.

When I first got my Coupe the rubbers were of the standard mini type i.e. undrilled, however I never drove it so can not comment on drivability.

I assume the machined cones are only for the front, standard cones in the back. The rear cones can be standard as the weight is similar but standard cones at the front will be far too stiff. I doubt if you could even get the ride height down to a reasonable level.

Re: How to modify your rubber cones. Spring Rates
Many years ago -- mid 70's -- I remember seeing a technical paper on Mini rubber springs showing rising rate curves and the effect of the trumpet top section. I though I had it in my old uni junk but I can't find it. I think is was attributed to Dunlop who made the springs under liesence from Moulton. May be availabe in some univeristy library somewhere -- possibly the I Mech E? I did a short search on the patent office website for the original patent with no luck -- I probably couldn't define my search well enough -- latest Moulton patents are all on bikes.
Has anyone tried a couple of Smootha Ride springs on the front or for the more extreme amongst us MiniSpares hard racing springs on the back?
