Just over £1000 for the cage as supplied.

I can take pictures of areas people are interested in.

Hi there,
I can offer to manufacture a single hoop in unpainted cold drawn 2" tube with mounting feet and brackets to attach to the bulkhead for £ 145 ex works ( no VAT )
I am currently repairing a Heerey 1.3 that I found on ebay last year and thus have a pattern.

@starmag
Cool if I we sort out me collecting those seats I'd love to have a look at the cage.

@west
Yeah I asked Dan (octane) if he'd got any further with the cage but he hadn't. :(

I know John got his a lot cheaper in 'kit' form from PPC but I wouldn't have someone to weld anything together for me and surely welding Cages is very specialised?

That being said if we can get a few people together perhaps we could get a deal at PPC?

Yeah sure :)

I asked about kit form too, they send you the tubes a bit longer than you need and you have to notch and weld the tubes yourself, I don't have the skills to do that unfortunately!

I got mine a bit cheaper by not having it powder coated, but wasn't a massive saving.

I wouldn't be able to get it fitted in kit form either so looks like it's the full price PPC cage :shock:

I'm actually surprised you don't already have one given how powerful your car is and that it's a daily driver

I have heard his car is quite nippy :lol:

@starmag
Can I just ask if your cage has supports made to go through the rear top of the bodywork (either side of the rear window) and mount on to the top of the space frame?

I have seen pictures of one like that but wouldn't want that type really.

Thanks

Rob

No it doesn't, but that's what I'm hoping to have done.

I have a rear hoop and door bars so I do have something. Cannot make my mind up to add to what I have already got or start again. I need to check an Idea I have too on the placement of a couple of the tubes.

I must get my CAD model of the car sorted.

And to think I have found a bit more corner grip/speed since too.

The crazy thing about the MSA requirement is that a tin top or sports car is required to have a cage with back stays, while my Jedi has a roll hoop and a a single back stay, every year I see a 5lt Pilbeam sport race car often getting FTD's, with a simple hoop with diagonal bar and front stays.
Something not very consistent in the requirements :roll:

Before ordering a PPC cage check with your local MSA Scrut.

One had a look at my car (David's old one) and commented on the front legs.

Image

He asked about reg 1.3.1 :- https://www.msauk.org/assets/153191comm ... afetyk.pdf

Quote:
1.3.1. Main, Front and Lateral Rollbars. These frames or hoops must be made in one piece without joints.
Their construction must be smooth and even, without ripples or cracks. The vertical part of the main rollbar
must be as straight as possible and as close as possible to the interior contour of the bodyshell. The
front leg of the front rollbar or a lateral rollbar must be straight, or if it is not possible, must follow the
windscreen pillars and have only one bend unless a windscreen pillar reinforcement [1.3.5(e)] is fitted.

Luck I was able to convince him of the previous heritage of the cage being passed by several others during it's life and it holding a MSA log book.

Post Re: Rollcage
Cheers Ken good information for those wanting to get out on track or hillclimbs.

I personally doubt I'll do any form of track stuff and just want the cage to help in case of an accident. I would like my girlfriend to be able to travel with me so added protection is a must.

I got stuck on the M3/M27 join last night for a couple of hours due to a crash. It must have been a bad one as they had lots of police and ambulances, a long line of the green fences up and people walking about in white 'forensic' type suits :(

I was thinking if you crash in modern-ish car it can end pretty badly so a crash in a GTM with no safety enhancements is going to be very bad :cry: I don't live my life thinking 'what if?' but when you are sat with a grim scene right next to you its hard not to think a little bit.

I will buy a cage for sure but obviously I would like to save some money on the cost if possible though and having just spent over £700 on parts for my Coupe it may have to wait a while but as soon as I start using the car properly I will buy a cage. :)

I take it the question was due to the kick in the tube which means it follows the inner sill shape. One way around this would be to build up a tower/base to bring the cage down and onto, Or reinforce the sill area and bring the tube down and miter it into the reinforcement of the sill . From memory Peter Wilcocks car is like this.

Might be the answer.

But it does say " only one bend in the A pillar tubes below the bottom of the windscreen."
I think the first bend is above this level

and "Note that the section of the front leg immediately above the floor mounting need not be vertical but the mounting is not to be readward of the forward most point of the ROPS"

As always with the Blue book, there is a lot of judgement by the Scrut.
