hi I was going to use the Elbow-engine coolant outlet - from the metro as it comes out to the side and down you can just see it

but when I went to put the outlet on the mgf vvc engine it did not fit as the cam pulley sticks out the side of the head and the metro outlet hits the cam pulley it's too short.
on the non-vvc head it just has a plate over the hole the mgf one is straight and longer and the outlet hits the tub

so it looks like that it does not fit but how much you have to cut out off the tub I do not no

I was going to rotate the slave mount so it fits flush with the gearbox but if I am going to cut the tub I will just make room for the clutch save

Hi,
So on the Metro outlet the sensor would hit the VVC cover.
Then you say the mgf one hits the cam cover and the tub, surely the mgf outlet was designed to fit the vvc?

The vvc one is longer so it comes out from the head more to miss the cam but hits the tub and the metro one hits the cam sorry for that I should read it properly before I posted it

If you could take the main outlet from the metro housing and the sensor part of the mgf
and combined them, would the bulkhead have to be cut?

As to mod where the sensors are on the housing would be alot easier than cutting the bulkhead

I have had a look at it again and the head is longer the vvc mechanism sticks out the side I do not know how much you need to cut out
I'm going to put the engine in the subframe and see how close it is
if I can get away with not having to cut it that would be nice
I will send photos so you can see if it fits

That is a great idea,if we /you can get away with a modified elbow then that would be easier than glassing the bulkhead/ replace petrol tank :)

Just found a picture of the metro water outlet, easier to see than the one on my car.

You say the sensor catches on the vvc cam cover, if that sensor was moved would the water outlet still fowl, the vvc cam cover?

If it did the sensor housing stub could be sealed off and the stub smoothed down, then the sensors move an inch or two so clearing the cam cover( may be even in their own piece of alloy pipe.

I think it would still hit the cam cover

I have been working on the car and I have finally got the engine out of the subframe :) :)

I had a lot of trouble getting the drive shafts out of the mgf hubs.
the drive shafts were stuck in the hub it did not help that I had taken the hub off the subframe I had to cut the nuts off, in the end, to get it to come apart

the R65 ones are on left and the pg1 is on the right of the photo you can see the ends are different on the pg1box
the ends in the bottom of the photo look the same if this makes any sense

had a bit of a set back
I knew it was going to well. I just went to put the drive shafts in a found that my MFG drive shafts do not fit the metro hub in my car I was told they would. so now I might have to change all the suspension to the mgf set up I had to cut the mgf hub to get the driveshaft out as I did not think I needed them this was not a problem but I think I might need them now so would have to find 2 mgf hubs :oops: :oops: :cry: :cry:



I have just found this on the web

if I'm right the metro has the same bearing as the mgf.
if that is right can I take the hub end of the mgf drive shaft and put it on my metro drive shaft.
then I would not have to change all the suspension and hubs

I think you may find that the splines on the drive shaft are the same for mgf/ metro.

What wont fit? the cv into the metro hub??

From what I have read you can change the cvs from one shaft to the other.

So fit your old metro cvs (outer) onto the mgf drive shafts

I think the have the same number of splines inside and the cv will fit in your metro hub.

Worth knocking one off to have a look, save alot of bother,

Let me know how you get on with this - I'm assuming mine has metro hubs as it has a r65 box and driveshafts but I have a vague recollection that libra/spyders used MGF hubs on the back to get the handbrake mounts to fit (in which case I wonder how they fitted the R65 driveshafts??)

Time to do some searching before I take the car off the road!
