Post Re: Paul's k3
hi
I have most of the parts I need I just have to find the right mems3 ECU to run it all there's a lot on eBay
but a lot of them say they are for the 160 I have the 143 but can't find out what the difference is in the mems3 ECU

I think I can use the PG1 gearbox support bracket on my metro subframe as it has the same subframe as the mgf
I have a metro one to use if it doesn't work
Peter used his Metro one and altered the metro support bracket to fit the pg1 box I might have a go at this and see how I get on

Note the proximity of the gearbox buttress to the tub
and also the F engine mounting buttress. The engine
mounting buttress is a really nice alloy casting with
an arm that sticks out forward for a very complicated
mount that hits the tub. I had to swap the F buttress
for the Metro pressed steel one to get it to fit.
The gearbox buttress on the F comes slightly too far
forward and hits the tub so I thought I would swap
to the Metro one, but this is for the R65 gearbox and
doesn’t fit the PG1 box. The solution was to grind
off the top corner to match the Metro one and re-plate
it.

I found the difference in buttress made contact with the tub so altered the metro one as shown.

hi
now having got the parts of the car, I was looking at it wrong I can now see what you did
you used the mgf one and cut off the top corner to match the Metro one and re-plated it.
you used the mgf engine mounting buttress and engine mount I was looking at making one of the libra PG1 gearbox mounts.
which uses the standard 1.4 metro R65 rubber mount http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/zz12 ... 9b5228.jpg
but I think I will be much simpler to cut the top corner of and to match the Metro's shape and re-plate the top. like you did

Post Re: Paul's k3
I have got the engine out of the subframe at last.
the engine would not come out.
there were lots of bolts stuck

Image

the engine mounting bracket was stuck I tried to cut down the engine mount and I used some heat to try and get the bracket of the engine but it would not move
then I realized that if I undid the three bolts at the bottom of the bracket I could use the one from the old engine that I'm taken out

Image

the engine is out of the subframe and I have removed the gearbox from the engine to

Post Re: Paul's k3
I have taken the engine apart.
at some point, I think the head has been taken off there was still old inlet gasket stuck on the inlet manifold
and I found the head gasket was no good
and there is some damage to the inlet cam
but the head does look like it is OK

Image

the problem with the cam
it looks like when the head bolt was taken out off the head the reluctor was in the way of the bolt.
the head bolt has taken off the corner of the CMP relutor
I still get a signal from CMP when you rotate the cam by hand but I don't know what will happen when it runs at 3000 rpm.
will it still see the signal or should I change it

I'm pretty sure the gearbox end of the driveshafts are different between R65 and PG1 so I think you'll need to use the driveshafts you got with the MGF subframe. I expect somebody will be along to say I'm wrong soon! I'm assuming (and hoping) that the hub ends are the same for both as I don't recall any mention of having to change the hubs on other peoples build/conversion logs.

and I have a new cam from eBay for my engine this should be fun to fit
I have also found that the liners are loose and I will need to reseal them as the engine is in parts.
:?: can this be done without taking the sump off

Post Re: Paul's k3
I had a bit of time this weekend and have taken the sump off.
the oil looks a bit like Mayonnaise it's a good job I had to take the sump off because the liners are loose and will need to be resealed

Image

I gave the sump a wash with some degreaser.
all I have to do is find the right Flange Sealant.
so I can put the sump back on.
there are so many Flange Sealants,s out there which one to use

Image

I have pulled all the liners out and they all look ok.
They just need a clean and add some Sealant then I can put all the parts back

Image

the liners were taken out and re-sealed

You've been busy Paul.
Is that a home made flywheel locking tool in the 2nd from last pic? I could do with one of those soon. Could you post a pdf of the shape of it please!

I do not have a pdf of the shape I made it by using some cardboard and some scrap steel, not all that CAD more cad (cardboard aided design ) I cut the gear part with a hacksaw.
it did not look all that good but it did work

Nothing wrong with that if it works! I'll have a go at doing a bit of cad too. Or may be use i-pad (ink and paper aided design!) Can't be bothered with a hacksaw though, I'll use a cutting blade in the angle grinder. I bought some really good super thin cutting blades from one of the stalls at Stoneleigh and haven't used my hacksaw since.
